The Talent Matchmaker’s mission is twofold. First, Talent Matchmakers ensure that clients have a wildly exceptional experience such that they make fundamental changes to the way they attract and hire top talent in the education sector. Second, Talent Matchmakers also ensure that candidates feel like they have a matchmaker in their corner committed to matching them with the right role at the right time.
OWG is a talent matchmaking firm started in 2011 by former teacher and attorney, Ify Offor Walker. Since then, OWG has served high-impact organizations such as the KIPP Foundation, Teach For America, UP Education Network, the Delaware Department of Education, and Breakthrough Charter Schools. We work to carefully select the right partners with mindsets that align with our belief for how to make matches with great people. We’re at an important time in our organization’s trajectory and we’re looking to bring on a founding member. We value individuals from all walks of life and strive to ensure that our work enables you to do well and still do well by yourself and your life outside of work. In addition to competitive benefits, flexible location, we offer every member of our team “commission for life.”
You are a Fixer. You model high expectations for your clients. You tell clients the things they need to hear not what they want to hear. You are comfortable saying no. You do not shy away from conflict; you embrace it as an opportunity to push your Client and our firm. Your clients trust you and are comfortable showing you the good, the bad and the ugly. You know that as soon as you start judging a Client you will no longer be able to see possibilities within them.
You are patiently persistent. You hold yourself personally responsible for results and are patiently persistent as you follow up and follow through. You find ways to get the information you need to meet your goals. Previous managers might say that they felt like you were managing them! You know that “no” simply means “not now” and are not easily discouraged if someone says they are not interested in a role.
You thrive off of creating great experiences. Before a leader thinks of making their next move, they think of you. You are conscientious about how people feel when they interact with you. You don’t take shortcuts. You rarely say things like, “Oh, that will be fine or that won’t matter.” You believe the little things do matter. You always return phone calls and messages promptly. Rarely, if ever, does anyone say they’ve tried to reach you and never heard back from you. You are a model of professionalism.
You operate with integrity. You would rather do something right or not at all. If something doesn't seem ethical, you share your concerns, rather than keeping quiet. When people have described you in the past, integrity is one of the first words that come to mind. You acknowledge when you have fallen short and proactively seek to make it right.
You are an excellent and proactive communicator. You use clear and concise language. Others have said that your writing is concrete and actionable. You use examples to back up your claims. You are proactive in your communication. You do not wait to be told what to do. You are forthcoming with information – the good, the bad and the ugly. You know that almost anything can be fixed if your manager has insight into the problem.
You find early-stage organizations motivating. You know we are in the early stages of our development and don’t have it all figured out. You are excited about a chance to come in at the ground level. You are ready to dig in and grow something that will last beyond you. You believe in our mission of increasing the performance of organizations by matching them with top-level talent form all walks of life.
You are no drama. You do what you say you will do when you say you will do it. You check your ego and your (awesome) title at the door. People like being around you. The emotional wake you leave behind is one that inspires and ignites rather than demoralizes or deflates.
The primary duties of the Talent Matchmaker are to (1) serve as the Client’s personal coach, (2) influence and motivate Client to enhance or change the talent DNA of the organization (3) match organizations with high impact leaders and (4) cultivate a bench of talented instructional leaders.
